Why Stay in a Budget Hotel in London?

London is an expensive city. Lodging costs can rival those of New York and Tokyo. Fortunately there are many economical alternatives to high-priced hotel rooms. Staying in a budget hotel in London lets you avoid those high prices.

People visit London for many reasons, but most visitors want to see the places that we all identify with London like Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, the Tower of London, Tower Bridge, Buckingham Palace, the Changing of the Guard, and the British Museum, to name a few. When visiting London you will want to be close to the sights. There are numerous budget hotels in London close to all of the places that you'll want to see.

London has many distinct neighborhoods or districts. Soho is also known as the theatre district. Most theatres in London will offer performances for you at prices you won't believe. Numerous Broadway hits were born in London at a fraction of the Broadway ticket price. Many Broadway hits emigrate to London at what will seem like discount prices. Some people travel to London for a long weekend of inexpensive theater. Similarly inexpensive accommodation is available a few minutes away from some of the best performances in the world.

Chinatown brims with restaurants to suit any taste buds and budget. But if you don't care for Chinese-Asian cuisine, you should try Southwest Asian food. London has numerous Indian restaurants. The British now eat more curries than fish and chips. Whether you want to sample various cultures' cooking or just crave American style fast food, in London you can stay nourished while you stay at a modest expense.

On the other hand, you may not care especially what you dine on as long as you eat. It's easy to forget about food if you like museums. London is overflowing with museums. If you like history and culture try the British museum. It has the Rosetta Stone, the Elgin Marbles, numerous Egyptian mummies, and about seven million other objects. If you prefer art, there are museums of European Art, African Art, Modern Art, Photography, Design, and many more. There is a museum with statues of famous and infamous people at Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum, a museum of toys, one for Sherlock Holmes, and one of war. All of these museums are near bargain-priced lodging.

Many budget hotels in London are B&Bs (bed and breakfast). For the price of your room they will also feed you breakfast. These repasts may be as simple as toast and tea or coffee, a "Continental breakfast," or a filling meal known as a "full English breakfast" with bacon, eggs, beans and toast. Some visitors find that their full English breakfast replaces lunch as well.

One of the most interesting aspects of travel, though, is meeting other people. The British also stay in budget hotels when they are in London. During your breakfast, you may be sitting next to British visitors to London. This is often an easy, relaxed way to make new acquaintances and learn about London from a different perspective. Even business travelers often watch their pounds and pence by staying in budget hotels. Talking to them can highlight other perspectives of London.

Whether you want to save money, see the sights, plunge into the theatre, sample exotic cooking, explore museums, or make new friends; there are many reasons to stay in a budget hotel in London.
